GERMANY - Holzwerk Rockenhausen, part of the Kesseböhmer Group , has received the German Sustainability Award for Design with OrganiQ.
With "OrganiQ", Holzwerk Rockenhausen has developed a forward-looking composite material made from rapidly renewable plant fibers that represents an attractive alternative to solid wood. The innovative material offers excellent mechanical properties, can be shaped in three dimensions and can easily compete with wood in terms of aesthetics. OrganiQ is made from the grasses hemp and kenaf.
The material is free of formaldehyde and phenol and, as a composite, only contains 7% PET, which has also been recycled. The DEKRA laboratory for environmental and product analysis has confirmed the high food compatibility of OrganiQ.
Products made of this material are already being used by well-known kitchen manufacturers throughout Europe - especially cutlery inserts. However, the potential is far from exhausted. The three-dimensional deformability in particular opens up a wide range of innovative uses.
