Construction Sector's Decline Impacts  Laminate Flooring Sales in 2023

BELGIUM - The laminate flooring industry's sales in 2023 continue to be influenced by the construction sector's downward trend, following a challenging year in 2022. Despite facing a decline due to inflation, rising material costs, and decreased demand, the sector remains confident in the market's future prospects.

1075EPLFEPLF (Association of the European Producers of Laminate Flooring) total sales for 2023 reached 318.049.711 m², down by -13.38% compared to 2022. Western Europe saw the smallest decline (-7.65%), while North America experienced the largest (-42.04%).

In Western Europe, sales decreased by -7.65% (165.379.999 m² sold), with notable increases in Turkey, Ireland, and Belgium. Eastern Europe faced a harsher decline of -10.25% (96.705.775 m² sold), with Poland and Hungary experiencing significant setbacks.

North America saw a notable decline of -42.04%, with Latin America also experiencing a decrease of -33.76%. Africa, Oceania, and Asia faced declines as well.

The construction market's challenges, including inflation and rising costs, have led to a halt in building and renovation activities. However, long-term projections indicate significant opportunities for laminate flooring as construction and renovation are expected to increase in the coming years. Laminate flooring, known for its sustainability and affordability, remains a viable option for consumers.

Despite short-term market difficulties, EPLF members are optimistic about future sales, confident in the medium and long-term prospects of the industry.
